Weddings at The Dowse

Make your once-in-a-lifetime moment stand out in our stunning setting. Our tailored wedding package will help you organise the big day—we’ll take all the hitches out of getting hitched! There’s room for you to dine, dance, and we’d love to talk about any special ideas you have to make the day perfect.

Our wedding package is $2,550 during peak season (from October to March) and $2,250 during off-peak season (from April to September), plus a $500 refundable bond. Extra costs may apply for public holidays.

The package includes:

     — Exclusive use of the James Coe Centre and courtyard from  
          10am, plus the Foyer from 5pm (once it closes to the public),  
          until midnight on the day of your wedding
     — Use of the James Coe Centre from 12pm–5pm the day before 
         for set-up and rehearsal
     — Three friendly and professional bar staff, including one certified
         Duty Manager, to serve your beverages and ensure the smooth
         running of your big day
     — Security personnel from 9.30pm
     — White rectangular tables and chairs, plus extra wooden trestle 
          tables if needed
     — Elegant, high-quality wine glasses, champagne flutes and water
     — Use of all in-house equipment, such as our PA system and
         microphones, lectern, projector and laptop, and modern black
         leather ottomans
     — Your choice of black or white damask tablecloths
     — Room and in-house equipment set-up and pack-down,
         including rubbish removal and recycling.
     — As a wedding gift from The Dowse, we provide every couple  
         with a named brick on the
Community Pathway at the front of
         The Dowse.

This wedding package is most suitable for 50 to 150 people seated; please contact us for a personalised quote for cocktail-style weddings or if your numbers would be less than 50. Please also speak to us about our discount for Hutt City ratepayers.

Our rooms can be configured in a multitude of ways, with spaces available for outdoor ceremonies, buffet dinners and dancing.

     — Modern facilities in one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary
          art venues, located at the heart of Lower Hutt
     — Multi-purpose stand-alone and breakout spaces with great  
         natural light and access to the internal Courtyard
     — Friendly and professional staff who are there to guide you every
         step of the way
     — Flexible arrangements; leave it to us to provide all equipment
         and hire things in on your behalf, or we can make
     — Completely wheelchair and pram-accessible
     — Plenty of nearby parking and a short walk away from most  
         public transport options
     — You can provide your own beverages, with no corkage fees for
         beer, wine or cider, or we can run a cash bar with beverages 
         from our New Zealand-based suppliers.


We are happy to provide you with a list of caterers that are familiar with our facility, or you can arrange your own. We recommend that you arrange a time for your caterer to come view the venue.
