Environmental economist Dr Ralph Chapman and curator Melanie Oliver will discuss resources and environmentalism in relation to the exhibition, Nicholas Mangan: Limits to Growth (until 12 November).

The Club of Rome’s report ‘The Limits to Growth’ was published in 1972 following a meeting of international researchers to debate the present and future predicament of mankind and subsequent computer modelling undertaken by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The issues they identified 45 years ago are even more critical today, as we attempt to balance a growth economy and consumption with the desire to live sustainably. How can we face these challenges now and into the future?

Dr Ralph Chapman is Associate Professor and Director of the Graduate Programme in Environmental Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. He was a negotiator of the Kyoto Protocol for the NZ Government, and has worked on climate change policy since 1988.
