Alongside Arcade, The Dowse invites you to come and play with us this summer during the Silbery Longrun 'Season of Play'.

Play is an exhibition of play furniture, playscapes and play-objects created by international artists and designers. The exhibition includes work by such celebrated names as Charles & Ray Eames, Enzo Mari, Vernon Paton, Eero Aarnio, and familiar design companies like Bauhaus, Playsam, Droog, and Magis. In an increasingly screen-obsessed world for children, Play complements Arcade with a celebration of free play and the imagination. The exhibition focuses on the importance of quality design for children, often over-looked, and suggests that strong design heightens sensory exploration, enriches learning and stimulates creativity. Play will extend beyond the Silbery Gallery into the courtyard and there will be a range of contemporary designs which children can actually play on. This will include the Imagination Playground playspace designed by architect David Rockwell to encourage child-directed, unstructured free play. The playground allows children to constantly reconfigure their environment and to design their own course of play—they will be able to climb, roll, rock, slide, push and play.
