To feel reverie is to be lost in a state of contemplation, and this exhibition brings together a selection of dreamy oil and watercolour paintings from The Dowse’s collection.

In Reverie, still lives, beach scenes, landscapes, pets, portraits and ghostly figures reveal how these artists translate their musings about the world around them into paint. However, rather than making perfect copies of what they see, each artist accentuates a certain quality or feeling they associate with their subject. In showing their own personal vision through their contemplative painting, these artists reveal the beauty and emotion that can be drawn out of day to day living.

Reverie features works by Joanna Paul, Toss Woollaston, Flora Scales, Michael Harrison, Layla Rudneva-Mackay, Olivia Spencer Bower, James Nairn, Gretchen Albrecht and Helen Stewart.
