Solo 2014: Moniek Schrijer
18 Oct 2014 – 01 Mar 2015
Moniek Schrijer’s practice develops out of her enthusiasm for experimentation with process and materials.
She uses industrial materials such as concrete, wood and glass to question the value of jewellery. Schrijer’s work, while handmade and precise, gives the visual impression of being imperfect and natural. For Solo 2014, Moniek will continue with her experimentation with unlikely materials and reference the four classical elements.
Schrijer completed a Bachelor of Applied Arts and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Jewellery and Printmaking at Whitireia New Zealand Faculty of Art in 2012. She was the recipient of the 2012 Fingers Whitireia award and the 2013 artist in residence at Toi Poneke in Wellington. Schrijer was the only New Zealand exhibitor at the Marzee Annual International Graduation Show in the Netherlands in 2013, and was selected to be part of Talente, an international jewellery exhibition in Munich in 2014. Schrijer’s work has been collected by The Dowse Art Museum and recently featured in their ground-breaking exhibition Wunderrūma: New Zealand Jewellery curated by Warwick Freeman and Karl Fritsch, which also toured to Munich, Germany.
