Our New Senior Curator
We're very pleased to announce Melanie Oliver will be joining The Dowse as Senior Curator in May this year.
I'm delighted to announce that Melanie Oliver, currently director of The Physics Room in Christchurch, will be joining The Dowse as Senior Curator in May this year.
Prior to joining The Physics Room in 2012, Melanie held curatorial roles at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth and Artspace Sydney. She has also undertaken curatorial projects for One Day Sculpture, the Liverpool Biennial City States programme, RAMP Gallery, ST PAUL St Gallery and RM gallery. A frequently published writer and regular speaker on the visual arts, Melanie also has an interest in the educational potential of cultural institutions, furthered by a period spent at the National Library of New Zealand.
No stranger to Wellington, Melanie completed her post-graduate study at Victoria University and was Gallery Manager at Enjoy Public Art Gallery from 2004 to 2007. In addition to her extensive local experience Melanie brings strong Australian and international connections to The Dowse.
Senior Curator is a vital role at The Dowse, responsible for overseeing a compelling exhibition and events programme that connects our audiences with contemporary artists and with our collection, and adding our voice to the national and international art discourse. I'm personally delighted that we are bringing a person with Melanie's energy and expansive thinking into The Dowse whanau.
