Congrats Emma Fitts!
We here at the Dowse would like to congratulate Emma Fitts for her selection as one of the 2018 artists in residence at McCahon House. This is one of the most prestigious artists’ residencies in New Zealand and we are thrilled to see it go to such a good friend of the Dowse!
Artists in residency spend three months at the French Bay house, and the attached studio, working on the project they proposed in their application. We hope that Emma has a great three months, April to July, is inspired and produces some great work in her time there.
We loved having Emma’s work at the Dowse in her ‘From Pressure to Vibration – The Event of a Thread’ exhibition. For those of you who weren’t able to catch the exhibition before it closed on the 2nd of July, Emma’s work looked at the relationship of textiles to architecture, modernism, Maori weaving and more. The connections and broader historical context with a social focus all made up a fascinating show and we could not be happier that Emma gets to expand on her brilliant work with the help of the McCahon House Trust. Best of luck!
