Author: Katrina Smit, Communication & Relationships Manager
The annual Big Day Dowse is on this Sunday 23 March – from 12-6pm. The Dowse Art Museum and Square will be alive with music, performances, visual arts, activities for kids and all-round good times for FREE.

Trinity Roots and Electric Wire Hustle are among the bands headlining at Big Day Dowse set to draw crowds to Lower Hutt this weekend. The FREE event, which is super family-friendly, will run from 12 noon to 6pm on Sunday 23 March 2014. We're expecting a crowd of about 8,000.

Courtney Johnston, Director of The Dowse Art Museum says the Big Day Dowse is a spectacular celebration of what makes The Dowse a great place to visit. “Big Day Dowse is when we take what we do every day to a whole other level - mixing up art, music and festivities to create a day that’s exciting for our regular visitors and enticing to people who haven’t been here before. We hope Big Day Dowse is an open invitation to enjoying one of the Wellington region’s key cultural assets.”

Between the music acts in the Square, the audience will be entertained by The Wellington Circus Trust featuring fantastically talented twisty teens from The Wellington Youth Circus who will perform acts of amazement. Zane and Degge, the two jugglers who made it to NZ’s got talent will be appearing in the crowds, while circus experts teach workshops for anyone wanting to learn hula hooping, rollabolla or juggling.

Amongst the family activities in the chill out area you’ll find the Wellington Sea Shanty Society, Anna Bailey from String Bean Puppets as well as the Dowse educators and their enthralling activities for children.
