Podcast: The Curatorial Internship
Over the weekend we opened Nuku: Symbols of Mana, the 2014 Blumhardt Curatorial Intern show. This episode is a look into the behind the scenes of the internship with Bridget Reweti.
Bridget started as the 2014 Blumhardt Foundation/Creative New Zealand Curatorial Intern at The Dowse in June 2014. Since then she has worked part-time researching and developing an exhibiton that is now on show in the Blumhardt Gallery at The Dowse.
Bridget's exhibition, Nuku: Symbols of Mana, is inspired by Nuku Tewhatewha, the carved pataka that sits at the heart of The Dowse. The exhibition explores ideas of mana, particularly as they relate to women, and features a number of notable female artists from around New Zealand.
In this episode of the podcast, we play an interview that we recorded with Bridget in late 2014 to tie in with the opening of her exhibition on Saturday 14 February 2015. We chatted about what is involved in being the Blumhardt Intern, how she has adjusted to being on the curatorial side of exhibitions rather than the artist side, and some of the hidden factors of developing an exhibition.
