Solo is a biennial exhibition presented by The Dowse that showcases and supports local Wellington artists by actively commissioning and presenting new work.

The series aims to present contemporary art work across a range of media and provides a snapshot of contemporary art practice in Wellington right here, right now.

Solo 2014  features the work of five Wellington artists and includes a nine metre oil painting based on hydrangeas at the Wellington botanical gardens by Karl Maughan, a giant translucent pyramid with a new drawing tool by Peter Trevelyan, a large scale collage based drawing directly onto the gallery walls by Ruth Thomas-Edmond, a deeply personal performance work based on a 1930s song from the Japanese occupation era of Korea by Samin Son and contemporary jewellery experimentation with unlikely materials by Moniek Schrijer.
