The annual Creative New Zealand / Blumhardt Foundation curatorial internship is an opportunity for an emerging curator to create an exhibition for our programme to be presented in the Blumhardt Gallery.

The internship has an emphasis on craft/object art and gaining familiarity with The Dowse’s collection. However, the scope is wide and encompasses contemporary art and design, and the production of new work as well as use of collections.

During the internship you will be fully engaged with all aspects of The Dowse’s work. In addition to your own exhibition, you will work on other projects, with the opportunity to develop skills in areas that interest you (such as public programmes, collection management, interpretation, publicity and exhibition design).

The internship is a paid opportunity, and the intern works 20 hours per week for nine months, culminating in their exhibition opening in March 2017.

Our anticipated start date is June 2016, though this will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The internship is being advertised slightly later than normal due to recruitment for a Senior Curator and therefore we are happy to offer a flexible start date.

Applications close 1 March 2016. For the job description and instructions for applying, visit the Hutt City Council website.
