Woof woof ruff! Join artist Telly Tuita for this hands-on workshop and create your own paper kurī sculpture to keep you company.
In Whetūrangitia/Made As Stars, twenty colourful dogs stand guard over Telly’s installation, inspired by native Polynesian kurī with their short legs and long muzzles. Within the exhibition Telly has created a colourful dynamic space he describes as ‘Tongpop’ – a visual representation of his own contemporary experience of being Tongan.
About the artist
Currently based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, Telly Tuita explores the broader notion of future nostalgia, which is an amalgamation of being grounded in the past but with the pressure to constantly progress.
