Finnish Design 125

Paimio Chair

Developed and toured by the Finnish Design Forum, Finnish Design 125 traced the transformation of Finnish design from the 19th century to the early 21st century.
Building on a tradition of beautiful handmade objects by the 1950s–60s Finland was a leading country in terms of aesthetics, fine design and applied art.

In recent years the Finns have focused on the development of design as a competitive advantage for industry—the most notable example being Nokia.

It is this application of design to commercial production and economic development that the exhibition foregrounded.
