World Builders presents three artists who imagine other realities. They create worlds of their own making—each extraordinarily detailed, coherent places with their own peculiar logic. Curiously, all of the artists are self-taught, developing their visual languages through experimentation and practice.
This exhibition premieres a major gift to The Dowse from the family of artist Bob Gerrard. A remarkable donation of nearly 50 paintings and sculptures adds to the single sculpture already in our collection. Based in Silverstream, Bob began to make art later in life after working as a carpenter. His wooden arks are delightfully inventive, crafted with great technical skill and humour.
