Artist Talk: Richard Stratton

Artist Talk: Richard Stratton

Listen to ceramic artist Richard Stratton as he walks through his works, international residencies, and his multiple exhibitions at The Dowse Art Museum.

This talk was produced as companion to Stratton's 2017 solo show, Richard Stratton: Living Histories. This exhibition explores how Stratton’s well known, intricate teapots and figurative representations have evolved into enigmatic, sculptural forms. Melding together small slabs of clay until they feel balanced and ‘right’, Stratton’s gradual, stream of conscious manner of making means each new piece can take over a month to complete. His final compositions draw from his immediate environment: abstracted representations of his daily life as both an artist and a stay-at-home father.

Richard Stratton: Living Histories is Stratton's third exhibition at The Dowse Art Museum. The show follows Stratton's 2011 solo show, Richard Stratton: Après les Baleines, and the 2014 group show, Slip Cast.
