Atua Wāhine: Divine Inspiration

10 March 2024

Artists have been drawing on inspiration from the divine for centuries. Hear from three creatives who have been inspired by atua wāhine (female Māori goddesses) in their practice. Poet Stacey Teague reaches beyond the frame of her known world to find a way back to te ao Māori. Artist Sandy Rodgers has found connections between atua wāhine and the goddesses of classical mythology. Aroha Yates-Smith is a performer and academic known for her research into forgotten Māori female deities. Joined by artist Raukura Turei in a final celebration of her exhibition, Takoto ai te marino, hear how atua wāhine continue to inspire and influence.
