The Dowse Podcast: Kava Club

For the opening night of Lonnie Hutchinson's exhibition, Black Bird, The Dowse Art Museum hosted the artist collective Kava Club and their Chop Suey Hui.

In this episode of the podcast, Alice and Chloe sit down with Herbee Bartley to discuss the Kava Club, a collective of Maori and Pasifika creatives based here in Wellington. The Kava Club hosted an extremely successful Chop Suey Hui as part of the opening for Black Bird, including performances by a number of creative Wellington women, and of course, Chop Suey!

Herbee chatted to Alice and Chloe about the origins of Kava Club and the Chop Suey Hui, the need for support networks around Maori and Pasifika values and ideas in creative communities, and how to get involved in Kava Club. The podcast also features comments from Gem Wilder, Kasaya Manulevu, and members of the Tupuna Collective, who were all performers at the event.
